Anime comes from a different culture--but it also is, itself, a different culture; one perhaps more connected to the global idea of cultural displacement than to its culture of origin. 

By the way, I didn't even realize the irony of talking about Speed Racer as my favorite Western film, given it's based on anime. I don't think it's a coincidence either that the film's directors were a pair of transgender siblings either, given the conclusions I come to here.
