"Disco’s rise to prominence seems unlikely.  Jewish kids raised in the suburbs of Michigan generally don’t go on to become pioneers of some of the dirtiest music known to man.  Not Disco D. Becoming a turntable wizard almost overnight, Disco D was already finding himself spinning alongside some of the Midwest’s top DJs, regularly playing some of the areas top clubs, and becoming a house party staple at the nearby University of Michigan (where Disco D would later graduate with a degree in business) all before he even graduated high school.

Taking influence from nearby Chicago and Detroit’s ghetto house and techno scenes, respectively, as well as hip-hop and Miami bass, Disco, along with the legendary DJ Godfather, began to pioneer a new style of urban dance music called ghettotech.  Characterized by pornographic vocals over fast-paced, unpolished dance beats, the teenage Disco D’s ghettotech would see play worldwide.

Disco D would put out his pioneering ghettotech record, D-Down, in 1998. Before he even lost his virginity, D-Down‘s title track is the quintessential ghettotech record – gritty beats and a hook that simply goes “dick that bitch down, dick that bitch down.”  An oddity, given his background?
