My friend Holly challenged me to write a song about waterbugs, because we spend so much time in class just looking at them. So I wrote one! This is for my little macroinverebrate friends, and for Holly! I'm going to miss our classes together! The backing videos were taken on a recent trip with school up to the daintree- (the Lizard Island feild practicum) And the song was recorded dodgily on my computer in the chapel while no-one was around XD Lyrics- I'll say goodbye to my little friends Although I don't know most of their names Hidden in their homes in the river bends The waterbugs play their games Mayflies, Stoneflies, Dragonflies, Damselflies, And diptera which are lots of other flies Boatmen, backswimmers, copepods, clacodera Diving beetles, daphnia, bloodworms, Aracina I'll say goodbye to my little friends Although I don't know most of their names Hidden in their homes in the river bends The waterbugs play their games Water striders, water spiders Mozzie larvae, mosquito fish Mussels, yabbies', tiny crabbies Phytoplankton, such a long list! Water caterpillars, baby tadpoles Fish eggs, now, who else have I missed? I'll say goodbye to my little friends Although I don't know most of their names Hidden in their homes in the river bends The waterbugs play their games I'd spin a home of sticks and sand Hold onto the ground so tight! In clearer waters you will find me with my buddies the caddisflies! I'll say goodbye to my little friends Although I don't know most of their names Hidden in their homes in the river bends The waterbugs play their games Algae of the colours of the rainbow Blue-green, green, brown, golden, red Blanketed with pacific azola And a vibrant lemna spread I said goodbye to my little friends When I saw them putting in a drain Now they don't have a home till the river mends Pollution made them go away. Yeah, I'll say goodbye to my little friends And... I don't know most of their names They were hidden in their homes in the riverbends The waterbugs played their games.
