So little Asriel here.. God quite a story. Originally we thought our bunnies were both female. The pet store worker said they were. A little while after we went to go get them both spayed, to reduce risk of them fighting. We first went for a little checkup at the vet, and they discovered that Toffee is a boy, and we'd need to wait a little longer to allow any potential babies to grow enough to be found on a scan. The time for the scan came up, and turned up negative (of course) so we was given the all clear for the spay and neutering operation. Toffee was neutered without further complications, but Asriel (originally named Snowball, as we thought he was a she. My family still calls him Snowball) had been found to not have female reproductive organs (Uterus, ovaries and such) nor any male organs (testicles or even sperm ducts). The vet who did the operation said that he had a rare mutation which made Asriel neither male or female, and we took him home that night. In the morning, poor little Asriel was all limp and weak, so we rushed back to the vet. He had reacted badly to the anesthetic, and his blood sugar had dropped real low which made him weak. After a different vet had set Asriel up to a drip and inserted glucose into his blood stream, he was himself again in just five minutes, but we decided he best stay with that vet for the night. We got Asriel back, and the new vet said that Asriel was actually a very young male rabbit, where his testicles haven't quite formed yet, and that he was a lot younger than we thought. We originally thought he was about 3 or 4 months old. He was in fact 10 weeks old, give or take, and sold to us extremely underweight. Well a day or two later, we went back for a post-operation check up, and discovered he had a hernia due to the last vet's shoddy stitching job, so now he had another operation to have it done properly. In the video, he is in a pet carrier because he is not allowed to run around due to risk of tearing the stitches again, and needs to be kept in there for about 7 days, rather than be put back into his pretty damn big hutch in the garden. He is in my room up on my drawers where I can keep a close eye on him, and tend to him if needed. In his dish are rabbit pellets, to help him gain weight, and he is now only just shy of a good weight for him. When he was first weighed at the vet, he was 0.67kg, and he is now about 0.9kg or something. He gets lots of attention and food, he loves to have his cheeks and the top of his head rubbed. He may be in a pet carrier right now, but it's for his own good and suggested by the vet. After we're sure he's made a good enough recovery from the second operation, he will return to his large hutch with his buddy, so please don't go telling me the carrier is too small for him. I know it's too small for general keeping, but it's just for a week while he heals. To be honest, we do have the mind to sue the last vet for the shoddy stitching job he did on poor little Asriel. That bunny has been through a lot this past week or so. Hopefully this operation will be the last of it. TL;DR: Asriel had 2 operations because first one went shit and now he's home in a pet carrier for a week to heal up.
