I wrote this on the couch at my fiance's father's house after a commercial for Plan B with the slogan "you got this!" made me laugh, and reflect on the (unsurprising) news I'd just been told about declining birth rates in the US amid my generation. Speaking as someone about to turn 29 in a month and with every intention of having kids, I feel I can speak a lot on what's holding back even the few millennials who actually *want* kids from going through with it. Which is, essentially, partly because of our heightened awareness of mental health and the workings of psychology, and partly because the entire fucking system we were told we'd inhabit as adults had crumbled by the time we got there. But that's for another time.
