Art inescapably has a purpose--whether it even tries to or not, it all inevitably tells us the same thing. What makes it interesting or appealing to us individually is the "fetish;" the distinctions between pieces which give them reason to exist, and which relate to us in the  personal ways which offer us potential understanding and acceptance in society.
