I live in one of the most densely populated regions in the world. 7.3 million people live here in Hong Kong. With so many people in such a small space, it's not practical to be friendly to everyone when you see hundreds of people every day. No one ever makes eye contact. It's almost as if we have to pretend no one else exists. 

In the fast-flowing sea of commuters, individual people blur into an incoherent mass, and identities fade into oblivion.
