Le Mp3 - http://www.mediafire.com/?sbdp3i54188w6sz (Before I say anything on the behalf of this piece, I implore you, please don't turn the comments of this video into a war zone over this fan fiction. Love or hate it, keep things in the perspective of this video and the artists and authors that made it possible. Just keep it civil, please!) This was an idea that had been stirring in me for awhile. I always loved the show "Reading Rainbow" as a child and loved their blend of simple narrative, poignant imagery and beautiful music. Now I am not all that partial to fan fiction, but I have recently given "Past Sins" a spin. It inspired the composition you hear now. It should also be mentioned that this isn't an explicit retelling of the first chapter's events, but more like a series of snapshots and associated text. If you haven't already read at least the first chapter, this won't fill in many blanks, sorry. As such, The full story may be found in an ereader here: http://maximillianveers.deviantart.com/gallery/31093108#/d40me3j I know some bronies are a little turned off by original classical compositions in the fandom, so I sought to create a confluence of art, narrative and music which tells a very specific story. What follows is a segment from the first chapter of Pen Stroke's story. All captions are taken from the story, though some were adapted to accommodate this video's pacing. The music represented a twofold challenge. I sought to compose something which would be inextricably connected to the imagery of the story it portrays. This is program music. The second challenge is a little less obvious. If you recall the instrumentation used by Octavia and her quartet at the Gala, it was rather....unique: Piano, Cello, Harp (assumed chromatic) and TUBA. Well, three guesses as to what instruments are heard here, heh. I did add a viola however, for counterpoint. A sidenote: I CANNOT find the artist responsible for the picture of Twilight and Nyx in the rain! Help me help you help him/her! If you know the name of this artist, please let me know. Well, I truly hope, regardless of your feelings on the fan fiction itself, that you enjoy this Musical Storybook: A Nyx in the Thicket.
