Another older piece I wrote in 2012. Just a few weeks ago I rewrote a few parts (especially for the timpani) to make it playable more easily. Available on Bandcamp: https://naturematthe.bandcamp.com/track/luna-republik “Luna Republik” was a long-lasting role play game in a big German brony forum. It was the first RPG on this forum to feature four different locations, each one having their own events, while still creating a coherent story. In “Luna Republik” (original name) the story takes place in and around an unnamed metropolis that is reigned by suppression, corruption, violence and poverty. Only the most loyal and the most ruthless ponies earn more than enough money to live wealthily. Some characters just try to live their lives without getting murdered every other day, some try to fight for their rights, and some others do whatever one asks from them if the payment is appropriate. The piece “Luna Republik” was composed not too long after the first posts had been written. Just before the start of the RPG I had gotten to listen to several pieces based on the “Lunar Republic” theme and one melody many of those pieces contained heavily influenced “Luna Republik”. It is the melody played by the flute in the very beginning. Since the day I published the piece for the first time (back in January 2012) there have been no less than three revisions of it. This version is just a little bit different from the original version from 2012, but a few changes had to be made to make “Luna Republik” playable by an actual orchestra. Even though I don't think that any of my pieces might be performed anytime soon, I want all of them to be playable. “Luna Republik” is by far the darkest pony-related piece of music I have ever written, just as “Luna Republik” is the darkest RPG I ever participated in. Still it is one of the most important pieces I wrote so far, especially since it was the first “orchestral” piece I ever finished. (Today I wouldn't name it an orchestral piece any more because I usually associate a lot more instruments with this word.)
