This is the first of three parts to explaining how to make a Speaker-NPC. Speaker-NPCs stay in one place and have one chain of dialog that they will say if you press enter while standing in their "hitbox". This chain of dialog won't change depending on the game's state, so unfortunately, you can't have an NPC send you on a quest and thank you after completing the quest---that kind of functionality will have to come later. You can tell it's a complex task, building a Speaker-NPC, if it takes three separate videos to cover all the details. Once I get NPCs with more complex behaviors, it'll probably take even more effort! At the moment, though, I'm going to focus on getting multilayered parallax-scrolling backgrounds in the game; I've been wanting those for a while.
