The descriptive tag sent to us by the our client reads as follows: "In a world full of highly-advanced technology and the supernatural, a group of teenagers attempt to better their city by becoming vigilantes, but they quickly learn what a dangerous game they're playing." The song we made is a theme for a character named Triad who's styled after a Roman legionary. Since the Romans themselves didn't have a strong musical culture, the request presented an interesting challenge. The Romans were known to have been heavily involved in the Near and Middle East, including the region of Anatolia. The country of Pontus proved to be one of their major adversaries after the war with Carthage, and that's why we named the song "Nectare Pontus", which roughly translates - as far as I know my Latin - to "Binding Pontus". We relied a lot on high horns but consistently used a drum called a dholak, which is actually a drum more popular in India. We also used timbales, which are Cuban, and of course a good, old-fashioned bass drum for the march feel. Although we technically fudged on the exact origins of our instrument selection, I think it came out pretty well for the theme of a Roman street-fighting legionary.
