In this tutorial I'm creating a typical uplifting trance kick drum by layering and modifying samples that came with the Yamaha S90 ES / Motif ES. This method can be transcribed for any sample based synthesizer / workstation by any brand, e.g. the Roland Fantoms or the Korg Kronos or Triton synths. It might even work on older synthesizers.
