A look into the equipment and techniques we used while making the song and video for "Canterlot Whore". There are a few concepts that I don't touch on in the video above (or below, or wherever the hell YT puts it in their next brilliant UI update), so I'll briefly describe them in this video's discription... A huge portion of the music video was material directly from the show, as well as relevant segments from the .MOV series and other fan-made works. I won't presume to dig into their creative processes, but I don't want to ignore it either. So I'll just say that I admire the work they've made over the years, and they played a major role in influencing/inspiring the lyrics and visuals for my project. The original song, "Hollywood Whore" always struck me as sad and more than a little mean. I was hoping to turn that around for some crude/uncomfortable humor by asking what would happen if Pinkie decayed into that particular flavor of big-city castoff . As Gaz and I mulled over the lyrics, the image that emerged was more stark and vaguely sickening than what I was expecting. Still, it seemed to fit: Pinkie's insecurities, her overwhelming need for acceptance and her cravings for fun could easily lead her down a very dark path. We decided to do some live action shots for this video primarily because the subject matter practically demanded something more visceral and immediate than we could reasonably achieve with animation. Also, I didn't want this project hanging over my head during the weeks (or months) it would take to animate it myself or find someone willing to do it for me. It definitely wasn't a "fun" project. Or at least, it wasn't nearly as much carefree fun as my previous project, "Bad Flyer." The first time I watched the Bad Flyer video, I felt pride and hope for Scootaloo. Canterlot Whore inspired a lot of feelings the first time I actually sat back and watched the final cut, but pride and hope were not among them. I'm glad it's finished; the overall icky feel of this song was starting to really bother me. Anyways, please share your thoughts on anything and everything about this project. In the meantime I'm going to go watch something less depressing, like PFUDOR or Snowdrop.
