I found a toad hopping in the backyard of our house and when I picked it up, he started squeaking. I live in New England and I believe it's an American Toad, I don't know for sure what type it was, but I know it's a male because of the vocal sack in it's throat. I've also read that only the males make this call when handled.
PS: the toad was not harmed whatsoever and I let him go safely.
