I wonder if I'll ever forget the day I was cooking dinner in my small, one-bedroom apartment back in early 2011. When suddenly, I get a Skype message from my friend, Swift Yuki. It was just a little clip of the show. When I inquired about it, she encouraged me to give it a try. At first, I wasn't sure about what I was looking at but it was well written enough to not bother me and the slapstick had me laughing (as it tends to do). But as soon as the overarching theme sunk in, I knew it was something I'd have to follow. Fun facts: Even back when I was a generally happier and less critical person, I still hated a good 95% of television shows, most movies and all commercials. Acting like myself from a few years back when I was generally more hyper, louder, more rant-prone and didn't need glasses definitely takes a lot of energy. Emulating that through the first two seasons is going to be tough. I had to thank Swift recently for getting me into this show when I realized that my involvement with the fandom has done a lot more good for me than I had initially realized. I'm never doing a gosh darn live action video like this ever again. I hate my face enough as it is. The last thing I want to do is stare at it for hours on end while I splice together a sequence of this length and then color correct it. A joke I used to make all the time is that I was going to whack people with a comedically oversized mallet in the flavor of Looney Tunes or a Mario game. But since I don't have one of those, I had to settle with a sledgehammer. Oh little did I know during my first time seeing the show of the epic foreshadowing from the "evolve into Charizard" and "Spike is a dog's name" comments. I must be psychic.
