A setting like Maretropolis would probably be considered super futuristic for what we've seen of Equestria thus far.
I thought Maretropolis looked more like Gotham from "Batman: The Animated Series."  But I couldn't come up with a good horse pun.  So I missed that joke.  Let me know if you have one.
