Greetings, In this video, I talk about why it's important to not give a bad show a pass simply because it's meant for kids. I also talk about why it's important to not cut back on efforts for quality just because it's meant for kids. Thanks to James Cole who reminded me to state that this video is about giving kids' shows a pass on their low quality because of their intended demographic - NOT for those who say, "Don't take it too seriously" in regards to people who obsess and center their lifestyle around a source of entertainment media. None of this is to say that there aren't limits to what types of subject matter a child should be exposed to. Developing psychologies and hormones are sensitive. Things that are typically considered an adult nature are considered thus for reasons. Those being because a young mind might not be developed enough to comprehend these things, especially all at once and trying to do so could very possibly damage a developing mind and cause a variety of other problems down the line -- all ranging from minor to extreme. Simultaneously, it's best that we not coyly skirt around, sugar coat or ignore issues that someone in a younger audience might be facing. There is always a middle ground for exposing younger audiences to heavy issues while doing so in just the right amounts to ease them into a better understanding of an extremely complex situation. It's always a case-by-case scenario. But I assure you, it is just the same always possible. I covered such a broad span of time in reviewing shows because I often hear about how bad "cartoons these days are" from people my age and older and wanted to test how true that was. What I found was that the ratio of bad to good was just as skewed through the 1990's as it is today. The 1980's were a little bit better, but not by much. It's also of note that Mitch Larson is fed up with this type of stuff in kids' shows as well. In a few of the various Everfree Northwest interviews that have been done with him, he refers to it as, "this 'new age' type of humor," and is sometimes followed by a curse.
