THIS IS A FAN WORK. Hey, it's been a while… but I haven't forgotten about our small equines or you all! Metaphor, lots of metaphor. Maybe I've been reading a little too much John Green, ok? This song is kind of a statement of how Scootaloo feels about herself, how others treat her, and how she is dealing with it. I'm sure you are all familiar with the Scootaloo-chicken flightless bird metaphor, which this song makes use of. I purposefully conflate the "little chicken," "the little bird," and "the little pony," in how she is still searching for herself and who she is going to be. The hot water signifies how she is tormented both internally and externally and how sometimes the hard times are the ones that help to define us most. Like how you know what is really inside a jar by what spills out when it is bumped. However, there is hope because the little hen (regardless of whether she can fly or not) lays not just an egg, but a hard boiled egg (in the metaphorical sense.) Whether she is able to fly or not is almost a moot point. She is going to end up being stronger and a better individual because of what she is going through. Here's to you Scootaloo, we're pulling for you. As a catch 22 I seem to be more creative during times when I have more going on and less creative when I have the time. Unfortunately that means that when I have ideas, I often don't have the time to explore them. However, the last week of summer and first week of grad school have seemed to be a good mix of busy and not too busy. Hence, this song. I decided to sing this song myself. I know the reception on the last one was kind of luke warm, but I feel much more solid about this one and sincerely hope you like it. I'm still no a professional quality singer, but I think it sounds better and more… authentic?… heartfelt?… real?… unfiltered?… (words) with a little less polish than someone else may have put on it. It's the first song I've done completely by myself. I'm happy with it and I am excited to hear what you all think. The tune is an old mountain tune by the name of "Cluck Old Hen." I even liked one of the verses so much I adapted it.
