As the outside perished, they huddled together under the watchful eyes of the dying desert goddess. Now it is a place of safety and worship, a welcome sight to weary travelers. But the residents never forget the sacrifice the Goddess of Sand made to protect them, and regularly replenish her memory through dark means hidden from outsiders."
