It needs drama, silence, surprise, dynamics, tension, release, and identity. I've learned that we have to appreciate the bad times -- because the valleys make the peaks that might higher. Pearl Jam's single "Alive", released in 1994, didn't speak to me until nearly 15 years later. This past year has been scary, fun, adventurous, and regretful. These past few months alone have been difficult, but in all that I've been through, I've never felt better. I wanted the flutes to sing on top of the violins. I wanted the crash symbol to punctuate the joyful undertone of the composition. I wanted Eddie Vedder's deep vocals to be brought out over top of the trumpets and trombones. Pearl Jam is my favorite band, and I'm thrilled that they may have their own festival soon. Alive starts off saying "have I got a little story for you". And I hoped to capture that story and tell it to you in the same way it was told to me. Through music.
