So yes, Happy was born male, but she didn't felt like it was right. She never dared to tell anybody till one day, Nature came up to her. She told Happy they knew about it and that they cared about her no matter if she's a girl or a boy. When Happy finally accepted that, Nature made Happy's wish come true and since that day, Happy was female.

I don't know if it's very clear, but the pony with Nature is Happy's male form, the colors are a bit grayer. I'm well aware that it is still pink, but I don't think that's a big problem. I mean, male ppl can also wear pink if they want so, yeah.
