Now, I can finally tell you why I made Fluttershy Fantine. See In my mind there are three characters that match Fantine the best: Fluttershy, Applejack, and Cadence. Because Applejack has to be Jean Valjean the two ponies up for the role were Fluttershy and Cadence. Fluttershy beat Cadence over the role for one reason….Cadence is TOO HAPPY. The only sad scenes Cadence really has our from Canterlot Wedding and that’s not enough for every sad song Fantine sings. Both Fluttershy and Cadence are very similar in personality. They’re kind, gentle, patient, and would sacrifice everything for their loved ones. Also, I think Fluttershy matches slightly better in that she and Fantine are super trusting and naive. That’s why Fluttershy is Fantine.

Towards the end, I did something a little different. Since the song is basically a recounting of Fatine's life before she was abandoned, I decided to add what happened after her lover left her and before she got kicked out of the factory. For those of you who are confused or don’t know the story...Fantine sends her baby daughter Cosette to live at an inn because she can’t afford to take care of her while she goes off to earn money to pay for the expenses.

Now I’m sure a lot of you are wondering why Rarity didn’t make it on this list and I will explain that later.
