A 'ponified' version of Don McLean's 'American Pie', with the subject being my favorite fanfic, Fallout: Equestria. I didn't write this. These lyrics were written by Overlong Analysis Cobalt a few months back on Equestria Daily. I enjoyed the lyrics enough to save them, and only recently decided to actually put them to song.

Lyrics:
A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those ponies dance
And, maybe, they'd be happy for a while.

But Shattered Hoof Ridge made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn't take one more step.

I can't remember if I cried
When I heard about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day that Big Mac died.
(Chorus)
So bye-bye, miss Equestrian pie.
Took a walk down to the ocean,
When the world made me cry.
And us good old mares were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', 'This'll be the day that I die.
'This'll be the day that I die.'

Did you read the book that lies,
And do you feel fear as the stars arise,
If the zebras tell you so?
Did this dark world finally take it's toll,
Can the truth save your mortal soul,
And can you feel the dark and dusty wind blow?

Well, I know that you're in love with him
`Cause I saw you glancin' in the dim.
Well, now I've kicked my old crush loose,
And man, I dig this DJ's news!

I was a lonely youthful quiet mare,
Who made it a habit to stop and stare,
But my old world became a nightmare,
The day that Big Mac died.

(Chorus)

Now for two hundred years we've been on our own
And mold grows fast on a rollin' stone,
But that's not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for our two queens,
In a seat he'd taken for his own means
With a voice that came from Littlehorn.

Oh, and while the queen was looking down,
The jester stole her thorny crown.
The meeting was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while Rarity read that book of dark,
Marauders fought to great remark,
And we all sang dirges for that spark
The day that Big Mac died.

(Chorus)

"Hush now," she sings, but the guilt was dealt t'her.
The ponies ran to the fallout shelter,
Ten minutes away and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
One player tried for a sideways pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.

Now the Tower's air was sweet perfume
While the spritebots played a marching tune.
We wanted to relax,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`Cause as Red Eye tried to take the field;
The Steel ponies refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day that Big Mac died?

(Chorus)

Oh, and there we were all in one place,
Generations had lost to face
With no will left to start again.
So come on: Jack be nimble, Jack be quick!
Blackjack sat on a candlestick
'Cause fire is the devil's only friend.

Oh, I watched him prance 'round in that age
My face was scrunched up in a rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that Golden spell.
And as the flames climbed green into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw Sanguine laughing with delight
The day that Big Mac died.

(Chorus)

I met a mare who played the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before,
But the mare there said the music wouldn't play.
And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the six mares I admire most:
Their figurines their only ghosts,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day that Big Mac died.

(Chorus)
