A long time ago, way back when I was working on Pocahontas, I held a blind vote for who would play the villain. I asked whether people wanted to see an expected casting or a funny casting, and while most people favored seeing the funny one I just wasn't feeling it at the time. So Rarity got the part and I swore I would someday come back to this for you all. And here it is!

Spike playing the greedy Governor does still make me chuckle, but the main reason I wasn't too keen on using him was the other song he sings in, Savages. I knew everyone was waiting on Savages with baited breath and I was planning great things for it, but I just wasn't convinced that Spike has the expressions to make it work. Yes he does get angry quite a bit, but it's always more "I'm being put on and I'm tired of it" anger, not the righteous fury that Rarity brings. Did I make the right choice? Maybe, maybe not. But at least now we can all see what could have been...
