I could talk about how no one remembers that there is a reprise to this song in the movie. I could talk about how similar the two songs are, or how I've now run through all the buffalo footage I've got. I could talk about how Little Strongheart doesn't ever look happy and that makes her hard to work with. I could talk about all of that, but none of you are probably listening. So I'll address the elephant in the room. (Pun completely intended.) If you are confused as to why I've cast Applejack for Shere Khan, I want you to find the Jungle Book and watch it again. I want to remind you that I cast based on personality above all else. And who is Shere Khan? He's polite, well-mannered, and generally likeable at all times. He knows he's a vicious killer and more importantly he doesn't pretend that he isn't. He never once lies about what he wants Mowgli for: he's going to hunt and eat him. He even allows Mowgli a few seconds head start when he finally catches him to make their competition fair. If I were to pick one word to sum up Shere Khan's character, that word would be Honesty. Trust me, once you look past the teeth and stripes and think about it, it's hard to see anything else. I do not own My Little Pony or Disney, but I do have the phone number to a pizza place twenty-five minutes away. I also have a little clicker that turns every street light between there and here red at random. I haven't paid for pizza in ten years!
