“Bitter Mac" BGM from the episode “Brotherhooves Social” of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E17).


--Overall Comments--

This episode was definitely full of surprises, from Big Mac dressing up in a dress in order to be a part of the Sisterhooves Social with his sister, to the Dolly Parton-like song, to the extremely well-done and emotional scene at the end, to the music during that scene.  The entire episode was really fun and emotional, and brought us some much needed character development for Big Mac and Apple Bloom, as well as Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo.  It also continued this season’s streak of utilizing events / plot points from the first couple of seasons of the show in new ways.


--Track Specific Comments--

Big Mac becomes bitter about how much Apple Bloom is looking up to Applejack, and feels like he’s lost his special connection to his youngest sibling.

As Applejack goes to talk to Big Mac, a theme is reprised which first appeared in season 3’s “Apple Family Reunion” in the track “Apples Departing / A Successful Reunion Letter”.  This track has been reprised a few times before in the series, at the end of “Bats!” and “Pinkie Apple Pie” in season 4.  I’m glad William Anderson reused it here, as it just fits the situation so well.
