“Flawless” (Vocals Only) from the episode “Fame and Misfortune” of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S07E14). --Overall Comments-- Twilight decides to publish the Mane 6’s old Friendship Journal in an attempt to try and spread more friendship lessons across Equestria. It unfortunately doesn’t pan out quite the way she wants it to! It’s pretty interesting and neat to have an episode focused on the friendship journal again, especially so many years down the line. In addition to some fun tracks that take us through the Mane 6 going more and more insane after the book’s release, William Anderson also gives us some now older themes to bring us back. The most prominent is the full version of the “Magic of Friendship” theme, which was prominently used throughout Season 4, but hasn’t been used as much in Seasons 6 or 7. It was nice to see its reuse in a prominent moment in this episode, which centers around the book also from the fourth season. Most surprisingly, however, this episode contains another song, riding off one we heard just last week! “Flawless” is another beautiful group number for all of the Mane 6, which also features solos for each. It’s great to hear another song so quickly, even if that means we only have one more to go this season… Let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- Well, that was quick! Right on the heels of last week’s song in “The Perfect Pear,” we’re graced this week with yet another Ingram song. This one, much like the first song this season, features all of the Mane 6, with some wonderful harmonies and counter melodies, as well as solos for each. The song begins with Twilight taking the lead with the first solo, and strong acoustic guitar backed with strings. The bass enters by the second line, adding a very groovy feel to the song. A small drum fill then takes us to the first chorus, with all of the Mane 6 joining in in harmony. The hook here is incredibly catchy, helped by the off-beats on the drums and bass. Ingram and Caleb Chan add in mandolin for the chorus as well, giving it that trademark MLP sound. The strings are also used to add some nice countermelodies to the group’s vocals. The mandolin becomes prominent over the acoustic guitar as Rainbow Dash begins the next verse. Strings take a more center stage for Rarity and Applejack’s solos. The song’s energy continues to pick up into the next chous. Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Twilight take the lead for the bridge. The backing instrumentation backs off here, with the exception of some building drums, and some guitar flourishes. Some “ahhs” from the rest of the Mane 6 fill in for them. One final drum fill takes us into the final chorus. The final chorus features some absolutely beautiful counter-melody vocals from Fluttershy, and one from Pinkie Pie. They really help up the energy of the final chorus heading into the song’s end. (Watch in 1080p!)
