The one and only Weird Al graces My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic with his presence a couple years after posting pony onto his Twitter feed. It truly is amazing how this episode came about. He's also technically the one of the first "guest stars" of an episode, and the first that has actually been advertised as such. And boy, does he deliver! Of course this episode is filled with tons of polka in the songs and BGM, as you should be expecting from an episode centering around not only Weird Al, but Pinkie Pie as well. However, Al also gives a stellar acting performance as Cheese Sandwich, nailing both a comedy side, and a super-serious western-inspired side. The episode also marks the return of writer Amy Keating Rogers, who was absent from season 3. It's fantastic to have her back on-board, as she always writes some of the best and most fun episodes of the series, and this one continues that tradition. The story for the episode is credited to Jayson Thiessen, making this the first episode he has been credited for that. This episode was jam-packed with music also, with almost the entire 21 minute runtime filled with either songs or fantastic BGM. As in the previous musical episode, "Magical Mystery Cure," normal BGM composer William Anderson stepped aside and let Daniel Ingram, Steffan Andrews also handle the soundtrack. As in the season 3 finale, this allowed the backing music to be very, tightly tied in with the songs, much of the time reprising themes from the songs themselves afterward. They both did an absolutely fantastic job with the soundtrack on this episode. On a related note, this episode has 18 unique tracks, not including the instrumentals—the most I've ever pulled from a single episode (even "Magical Mystery Cure"!). --Track Specific Comments-- Of all the songs in the episode, the sixth and final song surprised me the most. Polka? That was a given. Pinkie-style broadway number? Of course. Sad song? Yeah, gotta have one for the emotional part of the episode. But a full on electro-pop song? That came outta nowhere. But it's great, and will undoubtably have extended remixes for miles. A little short—so here's to hoping an extended version exists and will be released someday. Still waiting on that extended version of "I've Got to Find a Way," Ingram! The backing track is very high pitched, almost an electrified sitar. It fits Pinkie very well, actually. The song, according to the episode and song's writer, Amy Keating Rogers, was originally written to the tune of the song "Raise Your Glass" by Pink. On a technical note, as you probably noticed in the episode, the song cuts out suddenly when Cheese Sandwich beings talking near the end. The song gets reduced in volume by a lot, and confined into the right channel only. I did my absolute best to bring that part out in this version, but increasing the sound of the music also means increasing the sound of the ambient noise in that channel to. This is unfortunately the best we'll get until an official version (and hopefully an extended version!) is posted.
