“Restaurant Row" BGM from the episode “Spice Up Your Life” of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S06E12).


--Overall Comments--

It’s hard to believe that we’ve already reached the mid-season finale of My Little Pony, Season 6!  It feels like just yesterday we were watching “The Crystalling,” or heck, “The Cutie Re-Mark.”  Time sure flies—and now here’s our final music until the second half of the season, or “Legend of Everfree,” whichever comes first.

First off, the Cutie Map is back!  After a noticeable absence since the Season 5 finale, one that is nicely even pointed out by the Mane 6, Twilight and Starlight are able to use a spell to re-activte the map.  And after a little rebooting, it quickly calls Pinkie Pie and Rarity to Canterlot to solve an issue. (Yay, another episode this season with these two!)

While in Canterlot, we’re treated to reprises of the Cutie Map motifs from Season 5, plenty of Indian-style score (with ample sitar), and another new song!  That’s a song two weeks in a row (an academy record!)  Both the score and song tread new ground music-wise for the series; it’s always fantastic to see MLP continue to branch out into new genres.  Plus, this episode has something that I don’t believe we’ve heard since Season 1’s “Winter Wrap Up”: an instrumental reprise.  So, let’s dive in!


--Track Specific Comments--

Pinkie Pie and Rarity trek into Restaurant Row to try and find a good place to eat.  The track begins with more harpsichord as Rarity introduces Pinkie (and us) to the location, and becomes more unsure in a minor key as Pinkie asks questions.
