“The Spectacle" (Instrumental Version) from the episode “The Mane Attraction" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E24). --Overall Comments-- It’s finally here: the episode we’ve all been waiting for. The final regular episode of the season, Amy Keating Rogers’ final episode, and special guest Lena Hall And boy, what an episode it was! A great story, some spectacular animation and effects, and four diverse and unique songs, all filled with beautiful vocals from Lena Hall. All leading up to the final version of the song number that many of us have been anticipating since this year’s Comic Con. Not much more to say overall. Thank you to Amy Keating Rogers for all of the wonderful episodes you’ve given us over the years on this show, and we all are looking forward to more stuff from you in the future! --Track Specific Comments-- We’ve had some rap and dubstep the past few seasons, so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised, but here is a style of music I never thought we’d hear on MLP outside of Equestria Girls. Straight out of a Lady Gaga number, here is a very heavily-produced pop song complete with ample synths, bass, and unicorn-enabled autotune. Even though this song is meant to be over-the-top, heavily produced, etc., it still manages to be pretty fun. Daniel Ingram and team once again tackle a new genre of music and hit it right-on-the-head. This could easily be mistaken for a true Lady Gaga song, which is a big complement to the team for their work on it. The track begins slowly, at least compared to the rest of the song. But picks up quickly into the first chorus, complete with plenty of synths and much production. My personal favorite part is the bridge that comes next, with some catchy arpeggios on the synths, and a pretty nice vocal part. (Complete with a unicorn Prince providing autotune!) The scene itself has some great animation and effects, and plays out more like an actual broadcast of a concert vs. the normal style of musical number usually seen in the show. The effects from the lighting, lasers, to stage fog are very impressive and look fantastic. So much was going on on-screen that the MPEG-compressed TV stream was having trouble keeping up!
